Board Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Fairwood West Homeowners’ Association Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:00 pm on Thursday November 13th, 2014.  Trustees in attendance were Raymond Byrd, Paul Buelow, Richard Snyder, Nicholas Patterson, Chris Hurless, Charles Sherman, Eileen Richards Brandy Bradford and Christine Sylvia.  Also in attendance were Barb Simeona, Association Bookkeeper, and City of Renton Fire Department.

~ MONTHLY REMINDERS~

Any changes to the outside of your home must have
an approved architectural control form on file
prior to work being done on the home.

Renton Fire Department – The City of Renton Fire Battalion Chief was present to report. 

Be prepared for winter – here are some helpful tips for you:
Have heating systems checked by a professional.
Clean gutters and downspouts.
Clean storm drains.
Install and/or replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Have chimneys cleaned.
Disconnect all garden hoses.
Insulate exposed plumbing and pipes.
Make sure your disaster supply kit is up to date.
Check baseboard heaters often and remove any objects that may have fallen on top of or near the heater.
Be sure your space heater has tip-over protection with an automatic shut-off device.
Always turn portable heathers off if you leave the room and/or at night when you are asleep.
Close the screen and/or doors on your fireplace to protect your home from sparks.
Clean out ashes when cool and place them in a metal container outside of your home and away from other combustibles.

Homeowner Appeals – No one present to appeal.

Appointment of Officers and Committee Chairpersons – There was discussion regarding the various positions and what the duties entail.  This will be tabled until December after those in attendance can consider further what they would like to do.

Two additional Board members were added after volunteering to fulfill open positions.  Chris Hurless and Charles (Dave) Sherman.

Community Events – The Home Holiday Decorating Contest will be judged on Saturday December 20th between the hours of 6 pm and 9 pm.

Five winners will be chosen. 

A motion was made, seconded and approved to purchase five $25 gift cards from McLendons Hardware.

Pride In Ownership – On hold until springtime.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting – A motion was made seconded and approved to accept the September and October meeting minutes as amended based upon the email from Adrian Ryneveld.

Financial Report – The monthly financial report was presented. 

Treasurer’s Report – Ray noted that we will need to decide upon another check signer once the official Board is decided.

Architectural Control Report – Nothing new to report.

Common Properties Report – Adrian reported via email that King County is still trying to obtain permits. 

Richard Snyder reported that last year Boy Scout Pack 462 decorated the front entryway and they would like to do it again.  They would setup the weekend of November 23rd-24th and taken down by January 11th.  They will supply the lights and the labor for $400.00. 

Eileen noted that if we didn’t have them do it we would not have holiday lights.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to have Boy Scout Pack 462 provide lights and decorate the front entryway as well as take down and clean-up for $400.00.

Brandy noted that there is still a permanent garbage can in the park and she is willing to empty it.

Covenant Enforcement – All homes in violation were reviewed. 

Unfinished Business – See the outstanding action items below.

It was noted that we still have the “lower park closed” sign that needs to be put onto a post and installed.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to authorize funds not to exceed $25.00 to buy the materials to post the “lower park closed” sign. 

New Business – The Board discussed a gift for the outgoing President.

It was noted for the record that more advertising of the Facebook page needs to happen.  Barb will put a note on the statements and Paul Buelow will become an additional admin on the page.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m. after a motion was made, 2nd and approved.

The next two meetings of the Fairwood West Homeowners’ Association will be held on Thursday December 11th and Thursday January 8th both at 7 pm.  These meetings are in the portable building at the Nativity Lutheran Church, 17707 140th SE.  The October meeting is the annual meeting.
